The thing you should do first is to very clearly and specifically lay out your goals. It is really the most important step in the process and the step that most people seem to skip. When you define your goal you are better able to determine what needs to happen in order for you to reach that goal.
Start by asking yourself these questions:
- How much net income do I want to make each month?
- How much will I need to make per week, per day and per hour?
- In order to generate that amount of net income, how much gross revenue will I need to generate?
- How many hours per week or per day am I willing to dedicate to starting my business?
- How many hours per day am I willing to dedicate to running my business for the long term?
- How much money am I willing to invest in my business?
- Am I 100% committed to reaching my goal?
You will also need to determine what is important to you in regards to your home-based business. Do you have a specific type of business you would like to run? Is your main goal to make a certain income or is it to run a certain type of business? What other things are important to you in your business? Mobility? Status? Income potential?
When you determine what things are important to you, you can start to research different business models to find one that best fits your goals. Talk to other home-based business owners who run businesses that you thin might be good options for you. Ask them questions about what it takes to run that business. Ask them what their typical day looks like. Ask them if they would start the same business if they had it to do over again.
When determining what kind of business to start you should make sure that your goals are clear and that they contain everything that you truly want. You also have to determine why you want to achieve those goals. Your motivation has to be very strong. You have to be certain that the reason for your goal is worth sacrificing time, money and effort.
